Getting glam in Canberra: The Festive Season Little Black Book

Only really in the last week or so, has it dawned on me that the party season is upon us- eep!

With consistently warm weather, longer days and that 'buzz' starting to permeate the atmosphere as well as constant exclamations of 'Did you know there are only 3 weeks until Christmas!?', the realisation that it really is the festive season has officially started to sink in.

It feels like only a month or so ago that it was July and Christmas was aaages away but now the panic of buying about 8 million presents and attend about 8 million events is becoming a reality.

But it need not be. Here at Miss Winks, we have a little black book of amazing local businesses that can have us looking fabulous in no time. From dresses, to accessories to hair to brows come with us on a journey around our fave places to get all glammed up!

Destination #1: Brows

The Lab- Elouera St, Braddon

The number one Brow destination in Canberra for good reason- the girls at The Lab know their sh!t. With a focus on natural brows and beauty, they will tint, wax and tweeze your brows to their optimal shape. Located just above us, we can safely vouch that they are also the coolest babes around and will make you feel instantly at home. If all that wasn't enough, the pretty decor, retail section and the occasional appearance of the resident shop dog is the icing on the cake for this amazing space.

Destination # 2: Hair

A Flick of Hares- Cusack Centre, Kingston

Walking into AFOH for the first time, I felt instantly transported to a 'big smoke' city like New York. The space has a cool warehouse-like feel, and the concept is one that is new to Canberra: think of a co-working space for hairstylists, each having their own separate businesses but working in a shared environment. Genius! Not only will you love the decor but the creative vibe and knowledge that you are supporting a small business really adds to the experience. Lexi Bannister is my gal when it comes to hair (check out her Insta- she is a magician!) but all the stylists at AFOH are top notch.

Destination #3: Nails

Luxe Nails by Lizzy- Kingston

If you're looking for oh-so-pretty nails in a cosy environment, you can't go past Luxe Nails. Lizzy, the owner, is so passionate about her craft and is so precise, you really do feel like you're in great hands (mind the pun!). With beautiful product and very reasonable prices, you can't go wrong for your festive nails. Lizzy is also an expert in nail art for that special touch.

Destination #4: Waxing

Brazillian Butterfly- Garema Place, Civic

When it comes to waxing, I don't want to phaff around. In and out please! For quick, precise and expert waxing my pick is Brazillian Butterfly in the city. Not only will they have you in and out in a flash, they specialise in your, um, nether regions, so you know it will be as quick, painless and professional as possible.

Destination #5: Lingerie

Miss Winks- Elouera St, Braddon

Well obviously, that's us ;) The foundation to the perfect outfit, lingerie is a festive season essential! Stocking independent Australian designers that you won't find elsewhere in Canberra, our pretty range of bralettes, bras, bodysuits, knickers, candles, gifts and pretty jewels will make you feel like a million dollars for your festive events and shenanigans. We offer sizing and styling advice to help you find the perfect fit and stock a beautiful range of gifts for those you love (after you've gifted yourself some beautiful lingerie of course!)

Destination #7: Shoes

Peachy Keen- Braddon

Shoe lovers, unite! And where is our pick for the pretties shoes in town? Why, the newest kid on the block, Peachy Keen, of course! Only a few doors up from their sister store Rebel Muse, Peachy has you covered for coveted shoe, jewellery and accessory labels. I have swooned more than once at the collections, expertly curated by owner Alicia. My fave labels are Dylan Kain for their edgy bags and accessories, the Wolf Gang for the cute pom pom bags and Senso and Siren for their drool-worthy pumps and flats.
